With a southern swagger and earnest tales of a broken-hearted, hard-working man, Lil’ Dave Thompson plays Delta blues thick as maple syrup. Often likened to Albert King, Thompson was born in Hinds County, Mississippi, in 1969. After backing the likes of R.L. Burnside and Junior Kimbrough, Thompson busted out on his own and received two Blues Music Award nominations in 1996. His latest album, Deep in the Night, was released last fall and continues to receive praise.
Brandon Scott Sellner plays contemporary blues with a pop sensibility similar to Jonny Lang. From Sleepy Eye, MN, Sellner is popular in the Twin Cities, but his guitar skills and vocal prowess are about to hit the international stage. In April, Sellner beat four other bands and won the “Road to Memphis” contest sponsored by the Greater Twin Cities Blues Music Society, gaining the right to represent Minnesota in the Blues Foundation’s International Blues Challenge in Memphis in January.
